DESCRIPTION:  Length upto 6.3cm. A large round-bodied omnivorous prawn best identified by the translucent appearance and the oblique red-brown to horizontal lines on the carapace and the more vertical lines on the abdomen. Add to this the yellow and blue banded walking legs, the short straight rostrum that bears 7-9 dorsal teeth, 3 of which are behind the eye socket, and 3 ventral teeth, and the ID should be complete. Under a microscrope the palps on the mandible have two segments. DISTRIBUTION:  Common all around the coasts of the UK. HABITAT: Intertidal on rocky shores in rock pools around mid-tide level but sometimes higher. TIME TO SEE:  All year round.
